Evaluation
This self-evaluation blog will give me the opportunity to reflect on my choreography process and give an overall reflection on my journey. After showing my choreography piece in my assessment although feeling vulnerable, I felt a feeling of pride as I danced passionately through my work. I am overall ecstatic with the result.
I began by being inspired by a book called "They both die in the end" where two teenage boys get a call stating they will both die in the next 24 hours, after being told this information they lived their lives to the fullest whilst also learning how to accept their life is quickly coming to an end. To me this taught me to never take any second of your life for granted and this was a feeling I wanted to share with other people. This led me to base my stimulus idea off this book using quotes and my own personal emotion journey - I felt whilst reading this book - to be the spine of my choreography. From here I then researched the different religions and their beliefs on what happens after death to expand my knowledge and experiment with my choreography. I felt although I had perceived this well using expression, dynamic changes, and music.
Reflecting, I really enjoyed being able to use Rudolf Laban's 8 efforts and a way to guide me through my choreography, the different movement adjectives allowed me to think not only about a new step but also which dynamics I could intertwine to make help tell the story with my movements. In addition, this being inspired by Crystal Pite and experiments with how I could compliment her style with Laban's was a personal magical experience. My biggest challenge throughout this process was defiantly time management... after being given the module at the beginning of the year it seemed although we had plenty of time to create choreography but realistically with such busy schedules this wasn't the case, I felt like I was falling behind and was always trying to catch up to where I was supposed to be at the time. Next time I would dedicate more of my time at the beginning of the process to experiment with choreography this will give me plenty of time afterwards to clean my choreography later in the process making it cleaner and overall, more effective.
Now I am at the end of this process I am pleased with the dedication and effort I had put into my choreography; I have realised that it is okey to feel venerable when showing off your own personal movements. I am definitely a more confident dancer and choreographer than I was at the beginning of the term and being able to use different chorographic devices and techniques has inspired me to carry on choregraphing in the future. I am very grateful to have this experience and to be able to perform it live to my teachers and peers has been very memorable.
