Personal Development

Currently I am on route to finishing the final part of my choreography. Section 4 has been the hardest section to choreograph due to it being the closing of my choreography. I felt overwhelmed and pressured to get the ending section perfect so that the final message of my piece comes across clearly as well as having an impact on the audiences perspective. From personal experience a performance that leaves the audience feeling moved and motivated are the performances that are memorable and the idea of having an impact on someones life is very inspiring to me. I researched into why we are emotional after watching a dance piece,  The British Psychological society claims that "researchers found that rounded dance movements, rather than edgy ones, made watchers happier, as did more impressive moves, up to a point. The research also showed that, like music, watching dance can provoke visual imagery and personal memories in the viewer" (Jarrett.C, (2016) so  Reflecting back to my first Blog post I mentioned that I wanted to  present the message of ‘ don’t take anything for granted... live your life to the fullest as you never know when it can be taken from you' and I feel although I have been able to get this message across by creating an emotion rollercoaster as well as using a countdown throughout my piece to create a suspenseful atmosphere.

My final section "Death' I decided to inspire my choreography off the religion Christianity... due to me believing in this religion the most and feeling although I could portray this confidently. I will show this by a confused expression as well as reaching for the soft airy clouds that lay underneath me.

I have throughout my choreography reflected back the the book "They Both Die in the End' as a way to remind me of the feeing I felt the I first read it. The feeling of aspiration and motivation to go out there and accept everything around me was so strong so throughout my process I would read a chapter as a way too fresh this feeling and keep my choreography alive and active. I fount that the motivation the book gave me also helped me feel creative and inspired to choreograph new material, making the process exciting and fun.

My research has evolved massively through my process, from researching into one Practitioner - Rudolf Laban - to now having the knowledge and inspiration from Crystal Pite as a way to further develop my choreographer brain and experience more of an open idea. This has really allowed me to express myself through body movements I wouldn't usually use on myself however am proud of due to it being outside my comfort zone.

Going into the last week before my assessment, I want to aim to clean and make specific decisions with the footwork. I want to make sure each shape I make with my body is held and seen so the audience can take it what I have created. I will use the mirrors within the studios and self reflect and review on y=my movements. As well as asking my peers for their own feedback to see how their ideas and reflection can change my shapes.
