A REFLECTION OF MY CHOREOGRAPHIC PROCESS SO FAR

Currently I am choreographing the third section of my choreography 'understanding'. In this section I am conveying a feeling of acceptance while also embracing her last moments on earth. This really counteracts the last section where I demonstrate a lot of chaos and tension within my body movements. My overall goal for my dance is to play with the audiences’ emotions and I think the big chances in mood and music will help me achieve this goal.

Recently we performed -what we had so far- to our peers and choreography teacher. At first was nervous, showing other people your choreography can be very exposing and make you feel very venerable. However, after watching my other peers show and perform their choreography so brilliantly it motivated me to show off what I had created and soon became a highly exciting experience, I got positive and helpful feedback, here were my comments:

- The story was presented clearly as well as the character you were portraying

- Good use of the music, using different highlights and rhythms to change the dynamics of your choreography

-The way you have incorporated pointe shoes was very well done, using all parts of the shoe to show levels

- Watch your arms don't get too flow and loose. Make sure they have a purpose.

Looking at my feedback and reflecting on my choreography I want to include movements inspired by Crystal peck as he uses classical movement as well as neoclassical pointe work. I’m also going to reflect on my movement to see how I can make my arms more dynamic as well as meaningful, so they are less distracting for the audience have a meaning and a purpose.

I am now aiming to choreography the third section of my piece leaving me 6 minutes left to choreograph. Time management is going to take place now, I want to time to create between 30 seconds-1 minute a week to allow myself time to adapt, change and clean my choreography. I am going to do this by planning a realistic time management plan, this will allow me to stay on track and will allow me to hit set target goals leaving a sense of achievement and aspiration.

In addition, as I start to approach the end of my choreography, I have made a wise decision to relate my fourth section to Christianity. After researching into many other religions, I wanted to do Christianity as it’s the one I believe in the most and knew it would have more meaningful to me while I danced. Due to my character being likeable and loveable during section one, I chose to show my afterlife in Heaven to correlate the beginning to the end. I will show this by light and soft movements to indicate an angel like figure as well as using the imagination as I look around the studio and playing with the clouds that lay underneath me.
